The Goal-Setting Framework Shohei Ohtani Actually Uses (How I Created the Harada Method on Claude)
It's not a vision board. It's a system — and you can build it in just a few minutes.
A few weeks ago I saw a TikTok with a strange-looking grid on it — a big square split into 8 colored sections, each one split into 8 smaller boxes. 64 boxes total. No caption explaining what it was. I had to know.
Turns out it’s called the Harada Method, sometimes called Open Window 64 or a Mandala Chart. It’s a Japanese goal-setting framework, and it’s the same one Shohei Ohtani used as a teenager to map out exactly how he’d become the best baseball player in the world. He didn’t just write “be the best” on a sticky note. He broke it into 8 pillars — things like speed, control, mental strength — and then broke each of those into 8 concrete actions.
One goal. Eight pillars. Sixty-four steps. That’s the whole framework.
Why this works for ADHD brains
If you’ve ever stared at a goal like “grow my business to 10K months” and felt nothing but static, you already know the problem isn’t motivation. It’s that the goal is too big and too vague to actually act on. Your brain doesn’t know where to start, so it doesn’t start.
The Harada Method forces you to get specific. Instead of one overwhelming goal, you end up with a clear, visual map: this is the goal, these are the 8 things that build it, and these are the actions under each one. It’s disorganization turned into a system — which, if you’ve been here a while, you know is basically my whole thing.
How I built mine
I tried building this in Notion first. I tried Canva. Both worked, but they were static — I’d have to manually rebuild the grid every time I wanted to change something.
Then I tried it in Claude, and it clicked. I described the framework, gave Claude my goal, and it built the whole 64-cell chart as a live artifact — meaning I can actually check items off, and it saves my progress automatically. I even asked it to add a progress bar that tracks how many of the 64 items I’ve completed, and it just... did it. No design skills required.
The other thing I love about doing this in Claude: if you’re staring at your goal thinking “I don’t even know what my 8 pillars would be,” you can ask AI to help you brainstorm them first. I did this for my income goal (what actually makes me money, on a monthly and daily basis) and for a completely different one I’m calling my “glow-up Harada” — health, wellness, and the parts of my life that have nothing to do with business.
That’s the other thing worth knowing: you’re not limited to one of these. You can build a Harada Mandala for anything — your business, your health, your content, your posture, literally anything you want to get intentional about.
The prompt I used
Here’s the basic version of what I gave Claude to build mine:
“Help me create a Harada Method / Open Window 64 Mandala chart. My central goal is [your goal]. Break it into 8 supporting pillars, then 8 specific actions under each pillar. Build it as a live artifact with checkboxes for each of the 64 items and a progress bar at the top that tracks completion.”
Claude will ask you a few clarifying questions along the way — that’s normal, just answer based on your actual goal. The hardest part isn’t building the grid. It’s figuring out what actually belongs in it. That part’s on you (AI can help you brainstorm, but the clarity has to come from you).
